Type I photo of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann standing in a bulletproof enclosure during the start of his trial in 1961. Eichmann, one of the chief organizers of Hitler's "Final Solution," evaded capture by the Allies until 1960, when he was ultimately apprehended in Argentina by agents from Mossad. At his trial in Jerusalem, Eichmann, like many other Nazi perpetrators of the Holocaust before him, claimed to only be following orders from his superiors, a plea rejected by Presiding Judge Moshe Landau, who, at the conclusion of the trial, stated, “The court sentences you, Adolf Eichmann, to death for crimes against the Jewish people, crimes against humanity, and war crimes for which you were convicted.” Eichmann was executed by hanging on June 1, 1962, his ashes spread at sea outside of Israeli waters. The 6" x 8" original news service photo exhibits general light wear to the extreme corners with several handwritten notations applied to the verso. Verso also includes an original paper caption still affixed at the center and dated to the first day of the trial on December 4, 1961. Below the paper caption, credit stamping is visible from the London Express News. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
