Canadian brothers Pete Wood and Fred Wood left a handful of marks on 19th century baseball, including a specific game as Buffalo Bisons on September 30, 1885. That marked their first on-field game together, with Pete pitching and Fred catching. While the brothers no doubt found playing together a familiar experience, MLB considers them the first (and still only) Canadian-born brothers to play as a battery. This one-of-a-kind day reminds us that almost anything can happen on a baseball diamond, no matter what you expected when you bought a ticket.

This batting pose for Pete shows toning and corner wear, with a slanted right edge. Its central image remains clear and presents better than many other collector-grade examples, as Old Judge cards often faded over time when exposed to light (marks on its reverse could reflect a former album mount, helping protect its surface). Like those two Wood brothers, SGC's population report shows two graded examples of this Old Judge pose variation, each at SGC PR 1, with none higher! Love of the Game offers a number of rare Old Judge cards in this auction, including several similar hard-to-find singles.
