Very strong copy of this rare book compiled by George V. Tuohey and published by MF Quinn of Boston in 1897. Tuohey a Boston-area promoter of prizefights compiled this book in just four weeks due to demand driven by the success of the 1897 Boston Beaneaters. The club managed by Hall of Famer Frank Selee finished first in the National League with a 102-47 record. This 242-page hardbound book contains written history as well as photos and illustrations including a wide assortment of Boston players - Hugh Duffy Kid Nichols King Kelly and more. The book contains player biographical information as well as historical accounts of past Boston teams. The book is attractive and strong in appearance the binding completely intact with the exception of one leading page at the very beginning of the volume. The final page in the book is marred by some written notations in light pencil. The cover itself has been subject to some wear primarily at the corners and the spine but is overall very presentable. A very rare very interesting book describing the early history of the Boston Beaneaters organization featuring many legendary players.
