Sharp card of Kid Madden, from the obscure Number 7 Cigar issue, issued in 1889 by H.W.S. & Co. The issue, which featured 15 different Boston Beaneaters players, consisted of large (3 1/8" x 4 1/2") cards, each featuring a portrait-style illustration of a player. The reverse contains an ad for Number 7 Cigars (variations include ads for Diamond S Cigars, and some have stamps for "C.S. White & Co."). Cards from this unusual issue are very scarce today, and quite prized by advanced collectors. This example is sharp and clean, the highest-graded of just two PSA examples. SGC has graded ten more, none higher than this.
