Though the research conducted by Jefferson Burdick and the description of the W575-1 Henry A. Johnson Wholesale Confectioner issue as listed in the Standard Catalog are both admirable the reality is that very little is known about the issue or the Alameda California company that gave the set its name. What we do know after years of studying the issue is that authentic cards from the issue are rare enough that it is unknown if a complete set can even be managed. The Henry A. Johnson Confectioners cards are unquestionably among the most rare cards of their era and certainly among the most rare of the E121 family of cards.
Presented here is one of just five autographed examples from the entire set to have been assessed by PSA/DNA - that of Hall of Famer Harry Hooper. The PSA population report indicates two examples have been authenticated, but the error in the label (the card is labeled as a W757-1, as opposed to a W575-1) leads us to believe there was a data entry error with this card and just one exists. The signature applied in blue ballpoint, diagonally to the right of Hooper's image, the presentation is strong and the signature legible. A rare issue to find signed by any player, a difficult signature on a tough type card.
