Produced by the Felix Mendelsohn company of Chicago the M101-4 and M101-5 series of cards were produced with blank backs and offered to various regional businesses as promotional items. Many different firms issued sets of these cards featuring their advertising on the reverse. Additionally the cards were offered with blank backs in uncut sheet form or as individual sets as well. The cards were also offered with backs advertising the Sporting News. This Sporting News example of Hall of Fame second baseman Nap Lajoie has been graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. 1916 would be Lajoie's last major league season a career-low .246 batting average with just 35 runs batted in. Two more minor league seasons would follow including one as player manager with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the International League (where Lajoie would win the batting title with a .380 average). Lajoie called it quits for good at the end of the 1918 season. Population Data SGC Population: 5 total graded 1 at this level 4 higherPSA Population: 12 total graded 0 at this level 8 higher
