Considered by many to be the most difficult card in the entire 1939-46 Salutation Exhibits set this card of outfielder Johnny Rizzo is one of the rare single-printed cards from the set. Rizzo played just five years in the majors with four different teams compiling a .270 lifetime batting average. His best season was his rookie year of 1938 when he hit .301 with 23 home runs and 111 RBI with the Pirates finishing sixth in the league MVP voting. He never performed as well however eventually enlisting in the Navy during World War II and playing 11 seasons in the minors after his return. The card itself has a technical grade of POOR due to scrapbook remnants on the reverse but appears F-G with the bulk of the wear limited to the upper-left corner which has a pronounced crease with some paper loss. Aside from a surface abrasion to the right of Rizzo's head the rest of the card exhibits only minor wear with exceptional eye appeal. A very scarce specimen.
