Rawlings Official 1978 World Series baseball, signed on the sweet spot by Hall of Famer Yogi Berra. Berra earned a World Series ring in 1978 as a Yankee coach, and remained on the coaching staff through 1983. In 1984, he was famously named the Yankees manager, and despite being declared safe for 1985 by Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, Berra was fired after just 16 games, despite a promise to Yogi that he would be able to manage the team - and his son, Dale - for the entire season. As a result of the broken promise, Berra stayed away from Yankee stadium until reconciling with Steinbrenner in 1999. This all makes the signature's placement on a 1978 baseball more important; the fact that it was consigned from the estate of Clyde King, the Yankees General Manager dispatched by Steinbrenner to fire Berra, even more meaningful. Basic cert from James Spence Authentication.
