Shuffling back and forth between the New York Yankees front office and the field in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Clyde King was an excellent soldier and company man, even becoming the Yankees manager for the last 62 games of the 1982 season. Presented here is King's cap, a size 7 1/2 New Era cap dating to 1982 with heavy wear. King's name and uniform number 42 (famously worn by King's former teammate Jackie Robinson) is written inside the bill. It was during King's tenure as manager that the Yankees gave some playing time (12 at bats' worth) to a young September callup named Don Mattingly; he batted .167 in 12 at bats with just two hits, including one on the final game of the season, the last game King would manage.  LOA from MEARS.
