The Thurman Munson Awards dinner has raised nearly $20 million for programs that serve New York City children and adults, and is spearheaded by Diana Munson, the wife of the great Yankees catcher. Previous Thurman Munson award winners include Muhammad Ali, Arthur Ashe, Yogi Berra, Jim Brown, Harry Carson, Gary Carter, Julius Erving, Patrick Ewing, Nancy Lieberman, Mark Messier, Mike Piazza, Tom Seaver, Annika Sorenstam, Joe Torre, Bernie Williams, Theresa Weatherspoon, and many more.
The Munson award winners for the year 2010 included Joba Chamberlain, Jason Bartlett, Chris Duhon, Lou Piniella, and Darryl Strawberry. Presented here is the prestigious award presented to Chamberlain. The bronze award weighs about five pounds, measures approximately 13 1/2" wide, and bears the likeness of Munson in the center. An outstanding piece, a very prestigious award, as presented to the former Yankees pitcher.
