Named after former commissioner Bart Giamatti, the Bart Giamatti Award is one of three annual awards given by the Baseball Assistance Team.  The Giamatti award is given to the "individual associated with baseball who best exemplifies the compassion demonstrated by the late commissioner."  It is typically given to a player involved in significant charity work. Previous winners include Tom Glassine, Ken Griffey Jr., Derek Jeter, Don Mattingly, Jorge Posada, Cal Ripken, Jr., Tim Wakefield and more.

Presented here is the award given to former Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain in 2012. Measuring approximately 13" x 19", the elaborate award features two miniature wooden Louisville Slugger bats, crossed over a stylized home plate, set above the engraved portion of the piece. One of the more attractive modern awards we have encountered, this is a prestigious piece that is only awarded to people associated with baseball, and only for their exceptional humanitarian efforts. A truly exceptional piece, and a testament to Chamberlain's commitment to helping those in need.
