Reach Official AL (Johnson) baseball, signed by Babe Ruth and Carl Mays. The Ruth signature resides on the east panel, Mays on the north, so each displays as single-signed.
Though they never faced one another, Ruth and Mays were teammates from 1915 through 1919 on the Boston Red Sox, and again from 1920 through 1923 on the New York Yankees. The Yankees sold Mays to Cincinnati in December of 1923. Mays would remain in the National League until his career ended after the 1929 season, Ruth remaining with the Yankees until 1935. The baseball lists Ban Johnson as league president, dating it to pre-1927.
The signatures are both quite faded, of course, the baseball heavily toned and soiled. Ruth's signature remains quite legible, however, his distinctive handwriting applied diagonally on the panel. The soiling, though prominent, also lends the ball an attractive patina; this is an old ball, signed by the game's greatest player.
Babe Ruth remains the single most important signature in the game, and the most desirable autograph among collectors. The demand for Babe Ruth signed baseballs will never wane, in any condition. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
