Incredible 1907 edition of Napoleon Lajoie's Base Ball Guide, 288 pages of photos, rosters and stats from baseball teams around the country. Containing tons of photos by Carl Horner and Louis Van Oeyen, the 4 3/4" x 6 1/4" paperback is in VG condition, save for the cover, which is worn a little further, perhaps F-G condition. An interesting component of this guide lies with a two-page ad near the back of the publication, which targets "Sporting Editors, Ball Players and Collectors of Base Ball Pictures," advertising 5 1/4" x 7 1/2" photographs, available for 25 cents each or $2.50 for a dozen. The ad lists a number of AL and NL players available, plus former players. We believe this to be an ad for what we call "1904 Anonymous Studio Cabinets," an early set of cabinet-style Horner photos of unknown origin, which are of inferior quality to the Horner studio cabinets often found in the hobby. Based on this ad, and our subsequent research, we can say with reasonable confidence that 1904 Anonymous Studio Cabinets are actually 1906-07 American League Publishing cabinets.
