Seldom-seen card from an impossibly rare set, one of three different featured in this auction. The cards are so infrequently seen that only 12 have been checklist, despite the cards themselves referring to a 22 card set. Unnumbered cards measure 4 1/2" x 3 3/4" and have blank backs. The cards are so rare that PSA has graded precisely three - the three featured here, all of which we submitted for this auction. SGC has graded just one other.

Catcher/third baseman Ray Ortieg had a 16-year professional career that never saw him progress past AAA ball, though he hit with power and batted .286 in five seasons at the minors' highest level. This example of his Hygrade Meats card exhibits marked surface wear in the form of heavy scuffing.  The Standard Catalog specifies that this issue should have rounded corners, and this example is clipped - it is entirely possible that the cards are found both ways (we have found examples of each in our research), as there are so few examples to compare with that we may never find out for certain.  Regardless, condition is typically not a deciding factor with issues this rare; simply finding a card is challenging enough.
