Original Type I photograph of Brooklyn Dodgers manager Leo Durocher with Dodgers GM Branch Rickey. Pictured at the 1947 Dodgers spring training facility in Havana Cuba, the future Hall of Fame pair was preparing to help break major league baseball's color line; integrating the game by signing Kansas City Monarchs infielder Jackie Roosevelt Robinson to the Dodgers just prior to the season. Unfortunately for Durocher, then-commissioner Oscar "Happy" Chandler suspended him for the entire season before Opening Day, citing "conduct detrimental to baseball." This was major headline news both in Brooklyn and the baseball world at large until attention turned to Jackie Robinson's historic debut on April 15, 1947. Fresh to the hobby photo has been pulled directly from the collection of Jackie's former teammate, Clyde King who pitched for the Dodgers in the late 1940's and early 1950's. 7" x 9" example remains in outstanding overall condition with near-perfect image clarity, bright-white borders and just a hint of abrasion to the corners. Credit stamping from official Brooklyn Dodgers team photographer, Barney Stein has been applied to verso which otherwise remains blank. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
