Four Brooklyn Dodgers pose with their uniform numbers reading "1947" in this 6" x 8" Type I photo. Jackie Robinson would, of course, break baseball's color barrier with the Dodgers that season, making his major league debut on April 15 in front of a reported 26,000+ spectators at Ebbets Field. From left to right in the image: future Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese, utility man Arky Vaughan, outfielder/third baseman Butch Woyt, and fellow outfielder Pete Reiser. Another example of this photo exists within the hobby that includes a paper caption attributing the image to March 12, 1947 as the Dodgers were preparing for the coming season at their spring camp in Havana, Cuba. Fresh to the hobby photo remains in fantastic overall condition, with an impressively smooth surface and only light touches of wear to the corners. This example originates from the collection of former 1940's-50's Brooklyn Dodger, Clyde King (1947-52) where it has remained until consigned to us this past summer. Official Dodgers team photographer Barney Stein's credit stamping has been applied along the left edge of verso where trace evidence of removal from an album with sticky pages can be seen upon close inspection. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
