Jesse Hubbard was a pitcher, outfielder and manager in the Negro Leagues. Part Native American and light-skinned, the New York Giants once signed him in hopes of passing him off as white. With a lifetime batting average of .295 and a lifetime ERA of 4.42, he was known as a junkball pitcher, remaining in baseball from the 1910s to the 1930s.
Distributed in Cuba in 1924 and 1925 with Aguilitas Cigarettes, the Aguilitas "Segundas" set contained 900 card with a wide variety of subjects, including baseball players, movie stars, soccer players, boxers and others. The 44 players from the Cuban Professional League in the set includes several Hall of Famers and Negro League stars. This example carries a VG/EX 4 grade, considered high grade for any Cuban issue, though this example appears far stronger, with sharp and clean edges and square corners, and an outstanding image.
