Jackie Robinson's daring steal of home for the Brooklyn Dodgers in Game 1 of the 1955 World Series remains among the most thrilling events in baseball and American sports history. A spectacular 11" x 14" large format Type I photo, the presented example captures that very moment as the legendary Robinson beats the tag applied by New York Yankees catcher, Yogi Berra with two outs in the 8th inning; 70 years later this spectacular play stands as the last straight steal of home to occur during World Series competition. Despite Robinson's steal of home the Dodgers would drop Game 1 at Yankee Stadium to their hated rivals, then rebound to capture the only World Series title for the borough of Brooklyn after a highly competitive 7-game fall classic. Important museum-quality piece is fresh to the hobby, having been recently discovered as part of the Durham Find of Historic Baseball Photography (see special section contained within our printed catalog), and displays magnificently despite moderate wear including pinholes restricted to the corners and small, unobtrusive tears along the right edge. Verso bears credit stamping from the New York Times, with a carbon-copy description of the action applied towards the top edge. Please note that due to the oversized nature of this photo encapsulation is not possible. Nevertheless, this example has been authenticated by PSA/DNA as an authentic Type I photograph and includes their full LOA.
