Outstanding original Type I photograph depicting Ty Cobb during his time with the Philadelphia Athletics. Shot sometime between 1927-28, Cobb is displaying his split grip batting technique while sporting the attractive late-1920's uniform style of Connie Mack's men. After over two decades with the Detroit Tigers the Georgia Peach retired in November of 1926, ultimately unretiring to join the Athletics and future Hall of Famers Zack Wheat and Tris Speaker for the 1927 and 1928 campaigns. Fantastic 6" x 8" photo is a fresh to the hobby example with only gentle, typical handling wear common to news service photos. Verso displays credit stamping from Wide World with a handwritten identifier of Cobb written in pencil along the top edge. A classic depiction of the great center fielder late in his legendary career. Authenticated and encapsulated as a Type I photo by PSA/DNA.
