Fascinating newswire photo featuring Yankee legend Don Larsen in the midst of his legendary perfect game in the 1956 World Series. The photo caption reads as follows: YANKEE STADIUM Oct. 8 -- LARSEN IN ACTION AGAINST DODGERS--Yankees' right hander Don Larsen brings his arm around as he pitches during fourth inning of today's Series game against the Brooklyn Dodgers. Larsen pitching brilliantly retired the first twelve Dodgers to face him (AP Wirephoto) Clearly the photo was taken and distributed via newswire before the conclusion of the famous game. The Yankees would of course go on to win the game 2-0 behind the masterful perfect game of Larsen one of the Yankees' two runs coming on a solo home run by Mickey Mantle off Sal Maglie who also pitched very well but took a hard-luck loss. Larsen who signed the photo in blue ink has made a career of signing photos from the perfect game. However it is much less frequently that we see a newswire photo from during the game before the results were known. *Please note that this item is guaranteed by Love of the Game to pass authentication from one of the hobby's three major autograph authenticators: James Spence Authentication PSA/DNA or SGC Authentic.
