Interesting cardboard advertising display for Chesterfield Cigarettes, dating to 1946 and featuring Bill Dickey and Mel Ott. Both players are featured in their street clothes, smoking or holding Chesterfield cigarettes, with advertising copy reading "With the fans at Yankee Stadium & Polo Grounds Chesterfield is by far the largest selling cigarette." The piece measures approximately 21" x 11 1/4" and is backed by a tin frame.

Though the lot title refers to this as a trolley car sign, we feel it is far more likely to be a subway train sign, specific to the New York City subway, hence the reference to Yankee Stadium and Polo Grounds.  The well-worn sign is the only one of this size we have ever encountered, and features two New York players. Though the piece displays significant wear and water staining, it presents well, and is well-protected inside the tin frame. Surely a very rare display piece, the only example of which we have ever found.
