Also known as R305, Tattoo Orbit cards were released by a subsidiary of
Wrigley's Chewing Gum and feature a somewhat garish design. The R305 is one of the tougher and still overlooked issues from the gum era, despite its fanciful name and impressive amount of Hall of Famers among its 60 cards. Tattoo Orbits do not come up all that
often which is a real shame as the colorful, almost cartoony images are
quite pleasing.
Hall of Famer Earl Averill is the subject of this example which is centered just slightly south on the canvas. Averill has finished his swing in the foreground of the image, while a colorful stadium with a fiery sky behind it makes up the background. Corners and edges are consistent with the grade, while some light soiling - particularly evident on the reverse - keeps this one from grading even higher than it already has.
SGC has only ever graded 22 total examples of this R305 Tattoo Orbit, with only six receiving a higher grade than the VG-EX 4 offered here of Hall of Famer Earl Averill.
