The cards of the H804-3 set, like most advertising trade cards, were printed on thin paper
and typically subject to damage from handling or scrapbook mounting.
Still, the image quality is strong, and the illustrations are more realistic
than many of the other advertising trade cards issued during the period.
The primary condition flaws with these cards typically appears on the
reverse where the telltale discolorations associated with being
stored in the pages of scrapbooks can be seen. Luckily, this example,
graded VG+ 3.5 from SGC, appears to
have been removed carefully or perhaps even naturally as the reverse
typography can be easily read and exhibits no sign of paper loss or discoloring.
Centering is gorgeous, with only a light crease in the bottom half of the card, running vertically from the lower border up through the right forearm of the shortstop, keeps this
card from grading even higher than it already has.
SGC has only ever
graded 5 total examples of this H804-3, with NONE receiving a
higher grade than the VG+ 3.5 offered here of the "A Short Stop"
issue.
