August "Gus" Weyhing went 84-67 for the Philadelphia Athletics from 1887-89, completing 148 of the 155 games he started and throwing 9 shutouts. He threw more than 400 innings in each of those three years. Weyhing has three
different poses in
the N172 set. This issue depicts the Athletics Pitcher holding a ball in his right hand at head height during the peak of his motion to throw.
The top left corner is rounded, but the other three are surprisingly nice for the grade. While there is some faint edge chipping, the edges are fairly nice for the grade, as well. The card's technical grade can be explained by the condition of the back, which shows staining and paper loss from a previous life in a scrapbook or photo album, but does not affect the front.
