George Fulljames was killed in a fight on September 22, 1888. When Fulljames and his opponent met at the center of the ring, his opponent grabbed
Fulljames' hand and struck him with three solid blows to the temple. Coroners
jury ruled he was killed by an unknown spectator with a sling shot. An attempt to steal the body was made after the ruling by a group
of unknown men. The coroners jury members all left town to avoid being
questioned.
