D311 Pacific Coast Biscuit Cards are not well known to the average
collector but they paint a rich portrait of the Pacific Coast League
circa 1911. A small explosion of issues in the 1909-12 time period serve
to document the league but with the exception of the Obak issues, none
so vividly as D311.
Portland's Buddy Ryan is the subject
of this example, graded Good 2 (MK) by PSA due to some minimal writing on the reverse which does not affect the front. One player's name on the checklist (San Francisco's Buck Weaver, who was later banned for life from baseball for his knowledge of the Black Sox Scandal of the 1919 World Series) is underlined, and there is a small letter "B" written in the top left corner, explaining the (MK) qualifier. The front has some light diamond cutting and a small crease in the top right corner, with some soiling around the perimeter, but otherwise presents very nicely. However, the
scarcity of this issue far outweighs any cosmetic flaws on
this example.
PSA has only ever graded 6 total examples of this D311,
with only ONE receiving a higher grade than the Good 2 (MK) offered here of
Portland's Buddy Ryan.
