The Des Moines, Iowa publication Successful Farming was one regional organization that offered the cards from the Felix Mendelsohn company as a promotional giveaway. In this case, the publication offered a complete set of 200 cards from what is today known as the M101-5 set with a 7-year subscription to the magazine. The cards with this reverse are particularly rare today, in fact, among the most rare of all the known M101-4/5 related issues. It is speculated that the cards with the Successful Farming reverse were only used as promotional cards, and that the cards actually redeemed as part of the promotion were actually just blank-backed M101-5s. This would, in part, account for the extreme rarity of the issue. This example, picturing Cardinals outfielder Tom Long, has ben graded AUTHENTIC by SGC, due to the addition of color to darken a crease that traverses the card along the top third. The color is easily apparent, and not likely done deceptively, and does not interfere with the eye appeal of the card. A very rare card, from an issue prized by type collectors.
