Martin C. "Marty" Sullivan played two seasons for Chicago's National League team in 1887 and 1888. One of five poses of Sullivan in the N172 issue, this one depicts the Left Fielder at the
plate with his bat at the ready on his right shoulder while looking at the camera.
Centering is
far north and slightly east on the canvas, with some diamond cutting, as well. The image here is stunning, with tons of clarity allowing you to see every detail of the background and of Sullivan's beautiful, dark uniform. Sullivan was tall and strong, with big hands, a thick trunk, and big feet. The beauty of the printing on this card makes it easy to verify each of those qualities of his. Nice corners and edges for the grade, and a clean back, give this card wonderful eye appeal.
