William H. "Dad" Clarke (erroneously spelled Clark on this card) went 68-34 in 3 seasons pitching for the Omaha Omahogs between 1888 and 1891, throwing 99 complete games out of his 102 starts in that span. Clarke has ten different poses in the N172 set. This issue - which depicts him wearing a cap, holding a ball in his right hand down by his right knee - is the least commonly seen.

Centering is east on the canvas, with minimal room on the top, left, and bottom borders surrounding the image. The printing remains dark, with outstanding contrast, making it easy to see the subject's mischievous look toward the camera, seemingly daring a potential batter to dig into the box. Some lightly rounded corners keep this one from grading higher than it already has, but the aesthetic appeal far outweighs the technical grade. The only example of this pose to have been graded by PSA, this is an exceptional card.
