The various E91 issues are often overlooked among hobbyists, as the
illustrative images have long been considered "generic" illustrations
like the N284 Buchner "Gold Coin" cards, none intended to resemble its
actual subject. However, extraordinary research conducted by collector
Brian Parker has convinced us that many of the images in this
set are derived from actual player photos.
This example from 1909's Set B features Chicago first baseman Frank Chance and is centered just ever so slightly to the northeast of the canvas, but looks very nice overall. Some light surface wear on both sides and a small bit of paper loss near the front's top right corner keep this one from grading even
higher than it
already has, though the scarcity of this issue far outweighs any cosmetic flaws on this example.
PSA has only ever graded 30 total
examples of this 1909 E91B, with only eight receiving a higher grade than
the VG 3 offered here of Hall of Famer Frank Chance.
