The first series of cards in the T206 set were issued beginning in
1909 in cigarette and loose tobacco packs through 16 different brands
owned by the American Tobacco Company. It is a landmark set in the
history of baseball card collecting due to its size and rarity, with
cards of over 500 major and minor-league players issued in the set
through 1911. It is known informally as the "White Border" set due to
the
distinctive white borders surrounding the quality color lithographs on
each card.
This example featuring Brooklyn's George Bell with his hands above his head has most of the red tones missing from the printing process on the front. The pink layer, which would have made Bell's skin look more natural, and filled in the sky a bit, was not struck, leaving the card looking slightly unfinished but certainly unique. Rounded corners are consistent with the card's grade, with a small surface abrasion near the bottom right corner.
PSA has given this example a grade of Good 2. It should be noted that this card does NOT originate from the Pennsylvania find of printers scraps, and was erroneously included in this section simply in error, since so many of the print anomalies in that find have similar missing color passes.
