The first series of cards in the T206 set were issued beginning in
1909 in cigarette and loose tobacco packs through 16 different brands
owned by the American Tobacco Company. It is a landmark set in the
history of baseball card collecting due to its size and rarity, with
cards of over 500 major and minor-league players issued in the set
through 1911. It is known informally as the "White Border" set due to
the
distinctive white borders surrounding the quality color lithographs on
each card.
Johnny Evers stands with his bat at the ready with CHICAGO down the
front of his shirt in this T206 variant. The gorgeous sky and green
grass background immediately draw your attention, giving this card
massive eye appeal. Centering is west on the canvas, with soft, rounded corners consistent with the grade. Edges are actually very nice for the grade, but some light soiling along the left and bottom keep the card from grading higher. The Sweet Cap back is east on the canvas, with some tobacco soiling along the top and right edges, further explaining the card's technical grade. A truly beautiful
starter-grade example of the Hall of Famer.
