*Please note this card was erroneously published in our printed catalog as a PSA PR 1(MK). We have now updated the title here in our online listing to reflect the proper grade.
The first series of cards in the T206 set were issued beginning in
1909 in cigarette and loose tobacco packs through 16 different brands
owned by the American Tobacco Company. It is a landmark set in the
history of baseball card collecting due to its size and rarity, with
cards of over 500 major and minor-league players issued in the set
through 1911. It is known informally as the "White Border" set due to
the
distinctive white borders surrounding the quality color lithographs on
each card.
Ill-fated Cleveland hurler Addie Joss poses in front of a yellow background for this T206
portrait. Centering is north and slightly east on the canvas. While the corners are soft and rounded, the edges are actually mostly very nice, especially for the grade. Unfortunately, a crease starting at the right edge near the height of the top of Joss' head runs into the card halfway, and another crease in the bottom right corner keep this card from grading higher. The red ink printing on the Sweet Cap back is dark and bold, with a couple stain spots the only flaws of note on the reverse. Regardless of the grade, this card of the Hall of Famer has massive eye appeal.
