Rare Dogs Head slide and shell cigarette pack. Clean and sturdy, with some wear and tiny tears at the edges and folds, particularly near the bottom of the pack. The graphics are outstanding, an 1883 tax stamp still visible on the reverse. Dogs Head was not a popular brand of cigarettes, leading to packs being quite rare today. In 1888 and 1889, both Gypsy Queen and Old Judge cigarette packs contained coupons redeemable for N173 cabinets; such cabinets with Dogs Head Cigarettes advertised on the mount are extremely rare and highly prized among advanced collectors today. While it is possible (but not likely, based on the lack of evidence) that the coupons were also found in packs of Dogs Head Cigarettes, the brand was certainly advertised on the mounts and is thus closely associated with the N173 issue.
