Small (3/4" diameter) political pinback promoting John K. Tener in his 1910 race for Governor of Pennsylvania. A subject in the N172 Old Judge issue, Tener was a pitcher between 1885 and 1890 for the Orioles, White Stockings and Pittsburgh Burghers. After the 1890 season Tener retired from baseball, becoming a banker, and in 1908 was elected to United States Congress. Tener was the organizer of the first Congressional Baseball Game, an annual tradition that continues to this day.
In 1910 Tener ran for Governor of Pennsylvania, winning the election with nearly 42% of the vote. He is credited for reforming the state public school system. In 1913, Tener became the president of the National League, serving that role while also serving as Governor, continuing to hold elected office until 1915. He remained National League president until 1918.
The pinback is in excellent condition, missing any paper backing, but still quite strong and colorful.
