Outstanding hardcover book by Harry Clay Palmer, documenting a number of sights seen as part of the 1888-89 baseball world tour organized by Albert Spalding.  The tour was designed to introduce the game of baseball to potential fans and players (and sell them sporting goods), with a group of ballplayers consisting of the Chicago White Stockings and a team of All Americans on what was originally conceived as a barnstorming tour of the United States and Australia but eventually included England, Egypt, France, Ireland and Italy.  The teams played 53 games with Palmer documenting the trip.  The book includes illustrations as well as photos, including a handsome group photo of all the players and mascot. As noted elsewhere in this auction, the mascot, Clarence Duval, at one point during the tour created a stir by running off to join traveling show headed by actress Verona Jarbeau.  Interior pages in EX to EX+ condition, the cover exhibits some wear, most notably at the outer corners and spine.
