It wouldn't be a Love of the Game Auction without a Don Mossi item and for our first catalog we broke out the big guns - a near-perfect example of his 1959 Topps card graded MINT 9 by PSA. The card is a blazer with white borders sharp corners and the slightest dusting of print snow on the red border to keep it in the 9 holder. The Tigers pitcher is featured in a close-up portrait photo (but not too close; the photographer had to get the ears in the picture) his Tigers cap tucked tightly behind his ears to ensure it would stay attached to his head in the high winds of Detroit. 1959 was Mossi's greatest season with the pitcher posting a 17-9 record with a 3.36 ERA in 228 innings pitched and 15 complete games.
