Issued in 1911 by both Rochester Baking and Williams Baking to commemorate the 1910 World
Champion Philadelphia Athletics team, the D359 set is known for its
gorgeous portraits, player selection, and scarcity. Examples from the 18-card
"World's Champions" set are exceptionally rare and do not
frequently change hands. The opportunity to add one in any grade is a
welcome one for most collectors.
Presented here is a gorgeous example of Jack
Lapp's card with a bright red background and sharp edges. Centering is just slightly north on the canvas, while some light surface wear and an imperfection in the bottom left corner keep this one from grading even higher than it already has. A
difficult issue in any grade and a desirable card type, this is an extraordinary example seldom seen with this sort of visual appeal.
PSA has only ever graded 9 total examples of this D359 from Williams Baking, with NONE receiving a higher grade than the EX 5 offered here of Jack Lapp.
