Splendid decorative piece which we believe to be constructed of copper-colored tin, celebrating the Chicago White Sox' 1906 World Championship.  Measuring 18" square, the elaborately-designed piece is ringed by a border of embossed baseballs, with interior graphics including a pair of crossed bats over catcher's equipment at the bottom, left and right graphics of a stocking inside a shield with the word "SOX" superimposed over each, and, of course, a banner at the top reading "World's Champions 1906." The interior section of the piece houses a 7" square mirror with decorative chipped edges, held in place with tin nails (several of which appear to have been added later, to help secure the mirror in place.  At three of the corners, the piece contains holes into which coat hooks were intended to be fitted; other examples of this rare mirror we have seen do include the hooks. Backed with wood panes, the piece has retained one of it's two hook and eye fasteners, onto which we have elected to leave vintage laces that are not original to the piece but that have, at some stage in its life, been used to hang it.

The copper color has, over time, worn to a lively patina. A large, elaborate piece such as this was not likely manufactured for consumers; more likely it was given to players or executives with the ball club as a memento of the championship season. One of just three or four examples our research has uncovered, an outstanding piece of vintage memorabilia commemorating the great 1906 White Sox team.
