Detroit Tigers Hall of Fame player-manager Mickey Cochrane "puts 'em up" with future heavyweight champion Joe Louis in this original Type 1 photo. Both men were and remain Detroit icons, perhaps accounting for their playful demeanor in the image. Issued by Keystone View in 1935, the offered photo was captured while the fighter prepared for his heavyweight bout against Max Baer, scheduled for September 24, 1935 at Yankee Stadium. Louis would knock down Bear twice in the fight, winning by knockout in the 4th round. Photo measures 6.5" x 8.5" and presents beautifully despite obvious editorial markings in grease pencil running both vertically and horizontally across the image. Verso displays credit stamping from Keystone View, with a full caption attributed to Acme affixed with tape. A 1996 Baseball Magazine hologram is also present. Guaranteed Type 1.
