William Ashley "Billy" Sunday was a platoon outfielder for Chicago's National League team from 1883 through 1887, never playing more than 50 games for them in a single season. Even still, Sunday has five poses in the N172 set. This one depicts the then-centerfielder with a ball in his right hand, ready to throw, with his hand at neck height.

Centering is slightly east and slightly south on the canvas, with the diagonally cut bottom border falsely giving the illusion of diamond cutting. Great corners and edges, especially for the grade. The front of this card presents beautifully, but the back - which has staining everywhere but two spots where it was previously affixed to a page in a scrapbook or photo album - explains the technical grade. One of the most desirable non-Hall of Famers in the issue, a desirable card of the future evangelist.
