In seven years at the helm of the
New York Giants, "Truthful Jim" Mutrie's clubs had a combined record of
529-345 (.605) winning back-to-back World Series in 1888 and 1889. Mutrie is featured in three different in
the N172 set. This wonderful example depicts the New York Manager standing, with a bowler hat on his head.
Centering is just west on the canvas. Left corners are sharper than the right corners, but all are nice for the grade. Edges are also nice, but the right side exhibits some softness just below the center. The clarity of the photo itself is magnificent, allowing you to see tremendous detail within the image. Nice contrast between light and dark shades. It's hard to pick a favorite detail between Mutrie's bowler hat, his walking stick, or his fantastic mustache. All three are front and center with this card, a tremendous example with outstanding image quality.
