Jim Banning played 3 total games for the Washington Nationals in 1888 and 1889, accumulating a total of one plate appearance (which came in 1889) during his career. That's it. The fact that he has five different cards in the N172 set is curious but delightful.

This pose may have been better suited on a horizontal card, as Banning's back foot and the edge of his glove are cut off from the image due to the orientation's size restrictions. Nevertheless, this is an interesting entry in a great set. Some light staining appears on the front of the card, which is otherwise in wonderful condition. The (MK) qualifier comes from some light writing in the top left corner of the back of the card, which does not affect the front, however, the scarcity of this example far outweighs any aesthetic issues of this highly sought-after issue.

One of the more scarce subjects of the issue according to The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company, this is the only example of this 1887 N172 Old Judge which PSA has ever graded.
