Groundbreaking issue advertising Bond Homogenized Bread and featuring a player endorsement from Jackie Robinson, the majors' first African-American ballplayer who broke in as a rookie with the Brooklyn Dodgers that very season. The issue contained 13 different cards, each measuring 2 1/4" x 3 1/2" and containing a black and white image of Robinson. The cards are highly desirable today. This example features a gorgeous image of Robinson posing in his batting follow-through, white shirtsleeves visible under his new Dodgers jersey. Graded GOOD 2 by SGC, the grade speaks mainly to some mild staining along the top half of the card, which darkens the upper border but barely encroaches on the dynamic image of Robinson. An exceptional card, one of several that can accurately be described as "rookie" cards.
