Late 19th and early 20th Century pencil boxes are quite desirable among memorabilia collectors, and we have handled quite a few over the years.  This example is one we've never seen before, with a detailed design picturing a football player carrying a ball in the center of the lid, flanked by "action" illustrations of game play.  The three images are surrounded by stylized borders. The image, one we have seen before but cannot place, is quite attractive and colorful, despite a number of surface abrasions. The name "Mary McHarter" has been written in pencil on the inside lid, along with some other notes.  A few vintage pencils and pastel crayons are included as well, though it is unknown if they are from the period.  FAIR condition but wonderfully attractive and colorful.
