Original Type 1 photograph of Babe Ruth inking his famous $80,000 a year contract for 1930-31 as Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert looks on. Reacting to the May 8, 1930 signing, making Ruth the highest paid player in history, Yankees General Manager Ed Barrow would famously (and erroneously) state "No one will ever be paid more." The approx. 3.75" x 6" photo has survived in immaculate condition with a smooth front surface and clean verso. A related image from the same moment appeared published in the March 12, 1930 issue of the New York Times, which we have provided for reference. A fresh-to-the-hobby example culled from the estate of former Cleveland Plain Dealer staff photographer Frank W. Smith. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA.
