Perhaps the greatest shortstop of all time, Honus Wagner embraces old friend Hans Lobert in this original Type 1 news service photo from International. Wagner and Lobert would first meet in 1903 and remain friends for the next half century. While Wagner was among the first National Baseball Hall of Fame class in 1936, and his exploits are well known to Deadball Era collectors, Lobert is somewhat more obscure. Regarded as the fastest man in the game during his career, utility man "Little Honus" averaged 35 stolen bases a season and once famously bested Olympic champion Jim Thorpe in a footrace at the Polo Grounds. Typical handling wear around the perimeter and a few smudges on verso, otherwise photo exhibits outstanding image quality with pleasingly white borders. A large credit stamp from International has been applied to verso with handwritten pencil notations at the top. Includes full LOA from PSA/DNA.
