Presented here is a
collection of eight (8) ungraded tickets from the September 16, 1981 fight between Thomas Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard at Caesar's Palace for the undisputed welterweight championship.
The fight was advertised as “The Showdown,” and for almost 14 rounds, Sugar Ray
Leonard and Thomas Hearns entertained the crowd with nonstop action.
In Round 14, after staggering Hearns with an overhand right,
Leonard pinned Hearns against the ropes, where he unleashed another
furious combination, prompting referee Davey Pearl to stop the contest
and award Sugar Ray Leonard the undisputed world welterweight
championship.
Hearns would say once it was over, “We put on a great show
for them. If you never see another fight, but you saw this one, that
would be enough.” More than 40 years later, it remains high on anyone’s list of the greatest boxing matchups of all time.
8 tickets total, ranging EX to NM.
