One of the game's greatest living players, Sandy Koufax had a longstanding reputation of being a very infrequent signer of autographs. Recently, Koufax has been the subject of a number of small, carefully orchestrated and limited private signings, with autograph fees starting at $1,000. Adoring fans eagerly sell out such appearances.
An example from the desirable "Memorable Signatures" subset of the 2002 Upper Deck issue, this example includes a bold, blue Sharpie signature of the Dodgers' lefty, along with a swatch of a game-worn Koufax jersey. Limited to just 150 examples, this one is serial numbered #75/150. The card has remained in a private collection since the year of issue, recently consigned with a grouping of signature and swatch cards. Some corner touches and overall surface wear has reduced the technical grade to a still-respectable NM 7; the bold and impactful signature has attained a perfect GEM MINT 10 from PSA/DNA.
