Interesting collection of five hand-tinted glass magic lantern slides from the Frank W. Smith estate. Three of the presented slides feature baseball-related scenes from League Park in Cleveland, with the remainder depicting men who appear to be on the sidelines. While undated, it's likely all examples hail from 1914. Condition remains consistently excellent across the group with black paper borders surrounding the 3.25" x 4" translucent slides remaining fully intact. Glass surfaces of all slides appear to be very clean for their age, allowing for beautiful presentation of the central images. Included: 1) Boston catcher Bill Carrigan tagging an unidentified sliding Cleveland Naps player 2) Naps catcher, Steve O'Niell with unidentified dignitary on what appears to be Opening Day 3) Exceptional portrait of unidentified umpire 4) Portrait of male rooter in bowler hat. 5) Unidentified man, likely a gypsy whose image was captured at Naps spring camp in Athens, GA.

Slides originate from the estate of former Cleveland Plain Dealer staff photographer Frank W. Smith, who traveled with the Cleveland Naps to their spring facilities for many years during the 1910's. Four of close to sixty glass magic lantern slides offered in our spring auction from the original photographer's collection. All slides from this collection have been professionally imaged and winning bidders will receive both the slides and a one-of-a-kind 8" x 10" archival quality print with their shipment.

Please note: the slide of Steve O'Neill appears flopped in our printed catalog but has been corrected in this listing.
